Cerec technology allows us to create a strong, customised, tooth-coloured ceramic restorations right here at the office, usually within a single appointment. No temporary or second visit is required and the aesthetics are beautiful.
In the course of one visit, we can diagnose and prepare your damaged tooth, create an optical impression of the tooth, and use Cerec to design and mill a precision restoration, which is then permanently bonded to your tooth. No mess, no discomfort, no wait.
Cerec inlays and onlays can be used to replace large existing fillings that need to be replaced but are too extensive for a new filling. We are very conservative and always keep tooth structure whenever possible. Instead of grinding down healthy tooth structure for a crown, we only remove the old filling, any fractures and/or decay and replace what’s missing with a custom puzzle piece of porcelain. The Cerec inlay or onlay will provide a strong, aesthetic, long-lasting restoration. Compared to composite (plastic) onlays, Cerec’s metal-free, enamel-like material looks and feels like your real teeth and helps restore your tooth to its original strength. Besides the natural look and feel, but most importantly, we can see through Cerec onlays and inlays on X-rays and catch new cavities before it’s too late. As with any Cerec restoration, it can be done in one visit, without the drudgery of impression materials, temporary onlays and a return appointment associated with lab-created onlays.
A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that’s placed over the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength or improve its appearance. A crown may be needed to protect a weakened tooth from breaking or to hold together parts of a cracked tooth, to restore a broken tooth or a tooth that has been severely worn down, or to replace old, failing restorations or fillings.
The Cerec crown is a beautiful looking, single-visit restoration. With its enamel-like material, the Cerec crown looks and feels like your real teeth. Unlike the old PFM (porcelain fused to metal) crowns, Cerec is metal free. Although the PFM can mimic natural tooth appearance, the metal limits translucency and can sometime show though as a dark line, especially at the gum line. The Cerec crown can help preserve healthy, natural tooth structure. As with any Cerec restoration, it can be done in one visit without the drudgery of impressions, temporary crown and return visit.
It’s not unusual that more than one tooth needs to be restored. Typically this calls for a “quadrant treatment plan.” Quadrant dentistry can entail more than one restoration of any type – inlays, onlays, crowns or fillings.
Cerec provides you with the opportunity to make the most efficient use of your time in the dental chair and complete multiple restorations in the same appointment. This technology allows us to design and fabricate restorations at the same time. You can have several strong, beautiful restorations placed in a fraction of the time it would traditionally take.
Although Cerec is our proffered method of fabricating crowns or onlays, we do offer other options. If you would like PFM (porcelain fused to metal) or gold restorations done, we can accommodate any requests.
